I started the task by comparing the different options we had to improve SEO scores, deciding that a subdomain for the articles was the best solution for the team. Upon this decision, I compared different solutions that could be used for this task - from Wordpress to Webflow and also coding from scratch. I ended up choosing a hybrid model, doing the front-end from scratch to save costs and using Contentful as a CMS/back-end to employ it’s SEO focus, reduce code liabilities, and save time.

When starting to design the interface I used a blend of looking into how other article/newsletter websites design their UI and interviewing users who frequent websites focusing on fashion content. UI designs were then iterated, where I closely worked with the marketing team to align with their goals and needs too. Requirements such as customised components that link back to the shop were included too as part of the main features of the articles.

The final product is a website attached using a subdomain, maximising SEO potential using Next.js’ SSR and writer experience using Contentful’s simple interface. I also added Google Analytics and designed around responsiveness as my research has concluded that a majority of the website visitors used mobile devices.
